Hello, my name is Shoshi, Im an artist specialized in Silk painting. Which is a very ancient kind of art. But first let me tell you some facts about the silk itself. The Manufacturing of silk started in China around 3000 bc and was used as an elite product in the emperor courts. For more then 1000 years the Chinese managed to keep the process as a secret. But then the secret smuggled to the west through Tibet, India, Spain and Europe in what is called "the silk path". Today 60% of Silk manufacturing is made in Japan, China is the second country of silk exportation.
There are different kinds of silk fabrics, with different textures. I paint on raw Silk, scarves and tablecloth (runners). Further more I paint on Silk Chiffon, one of many different kinds of Silk fabrics, Silk Chiffon is a wonderful fabric for silk painting, and it is airy, light and can be used as a scarf or pareo.
Silk dyes are transparent and water based. Transparency of the dyes allows color mixing directly on the fabric and creating a harmony of both textures and colors.
As the painting process is finished the dyes needs to be fixed permanently into the silk fabric to allow it be washed later on. It is recommended to hand wash in cold water, ironing only by steam. Runners should be cleaned in dry cleaning.
For me Silk painting is some times an adventure and mystery, because I let the dyes do the talking and the mixing, of course with my guiding hand. In my work I combines both traditional and moderns abstract techniques to reach an amazing combination of all colors and textures.
The beautiful scarves you will see here compliments any woman, used as a decoration and a fashion item. Both runners and scarves could make a wonderful gift to yourself or for your love ones. enjoy my site, Shoshi.
